Back-to-School Night in September is an opportunity for parents to learn about the curriculum at their child’s grade level, to understand the daily schedule, and to meet his or her teachers.

Students receive grades and comments at the end of each quarter. Grades are in the form of percentages, not letter grades. These will be available for viewing on Veracross, which is your personal online portal for student information. After the first four weeks of school, both Upper and Middle School teachers also send progress reports to parents of students whose grades undergo a significant change, particularly if they drop below a “C.” This practice continues throughout the year, as needed and may come via e-mail or mail. Additional conferences are available anytime at the request of parents.

Yes, Learning Resources is a school-wide support service designed to help students become more effective learners, acquire student skills, and assist them if they experience learning difficulties that interfere with academic progress. Learn more about that program here.

It is imperative that you talk with the appropriate department chairperson before registering for any courses for which the student wishes credit. Upper School students may also talk to Gerald Buhaly, Upper School Head.

The goal of The Overlake School is to develop not only the student’s mind, but also the body and spirit. In keeping with this philosophy, two co-curricular credits in four years during US are required for graduation. Activities that currently meet co-curricular credit requirements include participation in an Overlake sports season, participation in a non-class theatrical production as cast or crew, or participation in a school-sanctioned club for one semester.

Permanent lockers are available in the gym. Students may have to share their locker with a friend. The P.E. teachers will issue locks. In the fall, 5th and 6th graders are issues cubbies in the Francisco J. Grijalva Fifth and Sixth Grade Center.

This lively, multifaceted program involves a Green Team and a Gold Team, each comprised of 5th through 8th grade students, to participate in community service, read-a-thons, brain-bowls, math competitions, and an array of intramural athletic opportunities. Lunchtime Olympics, the Spelling Bee, and Field Day are highlights of the year-long program. All new students are divided randomly at the beginning of the year by the green and gold captains to be on a team.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, Upper School students meet in the Fulton Performing Arts Center during homeroom period to hear all-school and Upper School announcements.

The Middle School students meet in the Fulton Performing Arts Center during homeroom period on Tuesdays to hear all-school and Middle School announcements.
