Why I give.....

Overlake Owls share their reasons for giving back to their alma mater.

Let me personalize this by sharing the reasons why I have been giving to Overlake since 1977.

I attended Overlake with the help of financial aid. Both of my parents were educators, and it would not have been possible for our family to afford the tuition without it.

The faculty and program at Overlake had a life-changing impact on me personally, as it has on each successive generation of Owls. As I have spoken with many of you over the last decade in this role, I have heard countless stories about the difference the Overlake educational experience has made in your lives, not only in academic areas and making a life, but in self-advocacy, global citizenship, service to others, environmental awareness, etc. Programs like Project Week are part of our community DNA, and were first proposed by students who felt they had the agency to ask for the opportunity to try something novel. So often, we were given that opportunity at Overlake.

I give most of all out of gratitude for the great teachers, coaches, and mentors Overlake provided. I give to help uplift the next generation of Owls, whose leadership is needed now more than ever in this beautiful world we share.
