What to Expect

Our faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and alumni have joined together into several planning teams to develop a response to our uncertain situation. Together, we will do our best to ensure learning and community can survive and thrive despite circumstances out of our control.

Phases to return to campus

Overlake has three phases of learning that will be used throughout the pandemic. We will transition from phase to phase in sync with Governor Inslee’s Safe Start phased approach.

Overlake Online

Corresponds with Governor’s Safe Start Phase 1 & 2

  • State required closure of campus
  • Students continue with online learning from home
  • Numeric grades for students in 7th–12th
  • Events normally held on campus reinvented virtually

Overlake Combined

Corresponds with Governor’s Safe Start Phase 2 & 3

  • State restrictions on group sizes with physical distancing
  • Students rotate between on campus face-to-face instruction and at home remote instruction
  • Approximately 50% of student body on campus on any given day
  • No parents, guardians, or visitors on campus
  • Class sizes limited to the number recommended by the state
  • Faculty and staff who identify as health compromised or of a certain age will work remotely
  • Numeric grades for students in 7th–12th
  • Adjustment to class offerings and frequency based on physical distancing and class sizes
  • Activities limited based on state recommendations
    • Limited attendance to concerts and plays, which would also be live streamed
    • Intramural program or possible limited competition for athletics
  • Limited seating on buses
  • Student pickup and drop off staggered and parents/guardians remain in vehicles at all times
  • Limited food service options and locations for lunch

Overlake OnCampus

Corresponds with Governor’s Safe Start Phase 4

  • State resumes larger group gatherings and activities with physical distancing
  • All students attend daily classes on campus
  • Faculty and staff who identify as health compromised or of a certain age will work remotely
  • Numeric grades for students in 7th–12th
  • Activities limited based on state recommendations
    • Possible limits on attendance to concerts and plays with possibility of live streaming
    • Possible limits on competition for athletics
  • Bus service available
  • Limited food service options and locations for lunch
  • Limited in school group gatherings to under 50 people
  • Provide open spaces for gatherings that would ensure physical distancing
