Prepare for the unexpected with this fun, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine, taught over two days by our very own José González, Ed.D.—NOLS Instructor and EE Director.
You’ll learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions.

You’ll learn both in the classroom and in outdoor settings, regardless of weather, so come prepared for wet, muddy, or cold environments!
This course meets the American Camp Association 2012 Standards and the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid training requirements. It is approved by the United States Coast Guard to satisfy the first aid training requirements [46 CFR 11.205(e)(1)(i) & 46 CFR 11.205(e)(2)(iv)] for a merchant mariner license.
Duration:
- Saturday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Sunday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with a written and practical exam from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Important:
- Participation on both days is mandatory for certification.
- Passing both the written and practical exam is required to obtain Outdoor Education credits.
Minimum Age: 16 years old
Maximum Enrollment: 12 students
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the course will forfeit the fee.
