"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" Escape Room!

Students solving puzzles in an Escape Room

This past week, Middle Schoolers got the chance to test their wits to open seven locks to "escape," in an escape room based on Jeff Kinney's wildly popular series, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." The Omaha Public Library system was kind enough to share all the elements of the escape room they created, which involved solving several number locks, a word lock, a color lock, and a key lock. I added one extra key lock with a rebus puzzle, and swapped out their 8-ball printouts for chocolate shortbread cookies vaguely resembling 8 balls which students had to taste to determine the combination of one of the locks (a few of the cookies were mint chocolate). Every group managed to solve all the puzzles, and a good time was had by all! Many thanks to the Omaha Public Library, and to Mrs. McCandlish for printing or recreating many clue elements.
