Yearbook

Seniors and senior parents have opportunities to contribute to our yearbook. Parents may create and submit a Parent Ad and/or a formal Senior Portrait of their child. Click here to view an online tutorial on creating your senior's ad.

Deadlines

  • March 30 - Parent Ad submissions due (please note: all ads are 1/2 page and free of charge)
  • March 30 - Senior portrait submitted
    • Submit formal senior portrait through Picaboo to replace school photo
    • If a senior photo is not submitted, the school photo taken at the beginning of the year will be used.
    • Please note that, traditionally, the school photos taken tend to be comical in nature and perhaps are not the best fit for the formal portrait section of the yearbook.

FAQ

  • What is a parent ad?
  • A parent ad is a half page in the Yearbook that parents can create to commemorate their senior’s transition from a child to a young adult. Sometimes parents include baby and childhood photos as a mini-photo record of their student’s childhood. Inspirational notes or similar messages are typical. If you are not wanting to create an ad for your senior, no worries, all seniors will be represented and the yearbook team will have a basic congratulatory ad available to put in the book so no one is left out!

  • Is it required?
  • Yes, we want to recognize all our seniors. Again, if you choose, the yearbook team can put an ad together to commemorate your senior's year in a standard Overlake ad.

  • How much does it cost?
  • All ads are free to our senior families.

  • What is the deadline for submitting an ad?
  • March 30, 2025 at midnight.

  • Who creates/designs the ads?
  • Parents will do so, retaining control of their ads (though we reserve the right to decline any content deemed inappropriate). An online ordering process saves parents time and energy. Yearbook staff will review all ads, looking for typos or graphic mistakes, but we can’t guarantee we’ll catch everything. Please double check your ads before submitting.

  • Where do I go to create my ad?
  • What are the requirements for photos?
  • Each must be at least 300 dpi and the online ordering system only accepts .jpg, .jpe or .jpeg. If using a photo taken by someone else, you must have permission to use it.

  • Can I import my own design into the online ad creator?
  • Yes. The online system has templates to work with. You can also upload your completed design. The file must be a .jpg, or .jpeg and at least 300 dpi.

  • What if my ad looks fuzzy?
  • The online system will provide an alert if a photo is not of high enough resolution. It will tell you that the finished ad may appear fuzzy. This is the time to fix the quality of the photo(s). If you ignore the alerts and submit the ad, you accept that it may print fuzzy and unclear in the final yearbook. The yearbook team is unable to make ANY changes to any ads.

  • How do I know my ad was reviewed and accepted?
  • You will receive a confirmation from Picaboo.

  • Can I include anything I want in the ad?
  • Within reason. Since the readership includes the entire Overlake community, including younger siblings, the material must be appropriate for all ages. Also, the content cannot violate any copyright laws.

  • What is a senior portrait?
  • Senior portraits are used in the class pictures section of the yearbook. They are larger than the photos of the other grades.

  • How much does it cost?
  • There is no charge to submit a senior portrait.

  • Who supplies the photo?
  • These typically come from the family, and while many families have used professional photographers the picture can be taken by anyone as long as the resolution is at least 300 dpi. If you do not submit a portrait we will use the school picture taken at the beginning of the year.

  • How are the quotes gathered for each photo?
  • Yearbook staff will go around to homerooms to collect quotes.

  • When must the photo be submitted?
  • March 30, 2025.

  • Is there a pose requirement?
  • No, you can submit anything from a headshot to a full-length photo. However, the print size for these photos is 2.5” wide x 3.5” tall. Typically, a head and shoulders photo works best. Please note that if you submit a photo outside of these dimensions, the yearbook staff may need to crop the picture.

  • Can it be black and white?
  • Yes, this can be your artistic choice. The vast majority are in color.

  • Can my senior pose with their horse/dog/cat/etc.?
  • We strongly prefer that the picture is only of the student.

  • What requirements do I need to give to my professional photographer?
  • Print ratio: 2.5”x3.5”
    DPI/Resolution: minimum 300
    Poses: no requirements
    Due date: March 30, 2025
    Color: Color or B/W
    File type: .jpeg

  • How do I get the photo to you?

We reserve the right to edit or reject images or text that threaten, defame, or infringe upon the rights of others, or those that contain references to profanity, obscenities, illegal activities, racism, sexism, weapons, or violence. We will edit or reject representations of questionable hand gestures or hand signs, sexual references, or any material the meaning of which we cannot verify. Additionally, all material published in the Yearbook will strictly adhere to Overlake behavioral expectations.
