Snowcamping
Snowcamping

This is a wintertime adventure in the Cascades complete with snowshoes, snow caves, and hopefully some wildlife encounters. As an introduction to winter camping, we will stay warm with lots of hot chocolate and do some animal tracking to learn about local wildlife behavior.

Wilderness First Aid Class

Are your wilderness medicine protocols on the tip of your tongue or in the bottom of your pack? Join the leader in wilderness medicine for a two-day scenario-based course to review and practice evacuation and decision making guidelines.

Snultimate
US Snultimate Frisbee

9, 10, 11, 12

This is a chance for Overlake's brave to head up to Snoqualmie Pass, hike a short distance to a snow field and play ultimate frisbee in the snow. It has been rumored that a BBQ grill is hiked in on a sled for some post ultimate cooking!!

Spend the day with Kent Renno, learning about the goals and expectations of the Outdoor Program and what your kids will experience on an outdoor trip. This trip will explore a scenic area near Snoqualmie Pass and will give an introduction to snowshoeing.

Mountaineering
Intro to Mountaineering

Ever wonder what it takes to climb a mountain like Mt. Rainier? This trip will introduce you to the skills and techniques it takes to climb on steep snow and on glaciers. We will spend time learning how to use an ice axe and how to self arrest.

Trailwork
Earth Day Trailwork

There is no better way to spend Earth Day than to be helping to improve the environment and our ability to get out and enjoy it. We will be working on a local hiking trail. We will be linking up with a local organization (WTA, Mountains to Sound, or Green Redmond).

Hiking
MS Hiking trip

5, 6, 7, 8

We are going to head out for a hike on a trail in the Cascades with a beautiful lake or a mountain viewpoint as our goal. Exact trail will be determined later, but probably near Snoqualmie Pass. (due to weather, trail conditions, etc)

 

Summit Hike

We are going to head out for a hike on a trail in the Cascades with a mountain viewpoint as our goal. Exact trail will be determined later. (due to weather, snow etc).  Be prepared for a workout!!

 

Rock climbing
MS Rock Climbing

5, 6, 7, 8

This trip will go to a popular sport climbing venue (Vantage/Frenchman's Coulee). Students will learn the basics of climbing, belaying, repelling, rope-handling, and all of the safety aspects of rock climbing. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NEEDED.

Kayaking
US Diablo Lake Kayaking
Open to:
9, 10, 11, 12

Diablo Lake is a beautiful spot in the North Cascades. The paddling is moderate, but the views are spectacular as we will go under waterfalls and get views of the Cascade peaks on a clear day. Look forward to the benefits of carrying deluxe meals on this trip.
