8th Grade Promotion Begins New Journey

Class of 2022

Overlake’s eighth-grade class took part in their promotion ceremony on Thursday evening.

While the students won’t have too far to go for Upper School classes, their lives will see significant changes. New lunch schedules, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and a more intense course load means more responsibility and work.

For 8th graders Diya M. and August H., eighth-grade promotion isn’t as much about looking back at middle school but getting ready for the future. “I know in high school it’ll get harder, and I’m looking forward to learning new life skills with more responsibility. Middle School taught me not to procrastinate,” says Diya.

With the start of summer vacation, August says she’s already looking forward to her freshman year when fifteen new students join Overlake's Class of 2022. “I’m excited to come back and make new friends,” says August. “Next year, I want to put myself out there and be the person those new kids can talk to.”

Middle School Head, Mike Davidson, says this year’s class has a lot to look forward to as Overlake upper schoolers. “One of the most rewarding things about being a Middle School educator at Overlake is that we get to watch our students continue to grow all the way to high school graduation,” says Davidson. “It reminds us that our work is meaningful, and that our patience with and belief in each one of these kids pays off.”
