75 Acres of Possibility
Just 10 minutes from downtown Redmond, Overlake’s 75-acre campus is a daily invitation to explore, reflect, and connect. Surrounded by forest trails and open green spaces, our campus is purposefully designed to inspire curiosity and foster community—offering the peace of nature with easy access to the energy of the city.
OWLS: Outdoor Wise Learning Spaces
Our OWLS program (Outdoor Wise Learning Spaces) takes advantage of the natural features around our campus – including an outdoor classroom, a fitness course and a student art gallery; a weather station providing real-time readings online; and a 2.5-mile system of five trails, varying in length and difficulty, each including interpretive signs and trail marker posts.
Spaces built for growth, community, and possibility.
Over the years, we’re proud to have given our Owls wings through thoughtfully designed spaces that foster exploration, connection, and growth. From the sustainable Student & Community Center, to the hands-on Whitten Math & Sciences Center, to the lively Fulton Performing Arts Center, each facility serves a fundamental role in students’ becoming of age. Honoring both innovation and tradition, our campus reflects Overlake's commitment to creating environments where trailblazers find themselves, nurture their passions, and invest in lasting relationships.
Our Student & Community Center opened in September 2025 as the new heart of campus. This 8,000 square-foot building welcomes students, families, and visitors with a front porch designed for spontaneous connection and a flexible multipurpose space that holds up to 250 people. It's where students practice collaboration, creativity, and the real-world skills they'll need for college and beyond. Thoughtfully designed with sustainable features like a green roof, mass-timber structure, and views of the surrounding tree tops, this space is built for community, learning, and the future of Overlake.
This 30,000 square-foot building dedicated to the disciplines of math, science, and computer science. Named in honor of Greg and Michelle Whitten, whose leadership gift—the largest in Overlake's history—made this facility possible, the Center opened its doors in 2021. Built with support from 300 community members as part of the $35 million Doors to Discovery capital campaign, this flexible, light-filled space offers students and faculty new possibilities for hands-on learning, customized curriculum, and collaboration. The Center includes inventive teaching spaces, an IDEA Lab, communal gatherings spaces, and room for courses that will continue to evolve with our students' needs for years to come.
The Francisco J. Grijalva Fifth & Sixth Grade Center is named in honor of Dr. Francisco J. Grijalva, who served as Overlake's Head of School from 1995 to 2012. Completed in 2011, this dedicated space supports the unique needs of our 5th and 6th grade students with a home base as they transition from an elementary school model. Most of the classes for these grades are taught in this building and each student has a dedicated personal storage space for their belongings. It's designed to create a warm, collaborative environment where young learners can grow socially and academically.
The Overlake School Library is a learning hub for students in grades 5–12 to study, collaborate, and explore. As part of our Information Literacy & Technology Department, the library fosters research skills and digital literacy across all subjects. Students can work independently or in groups, get tech support at our Help Desk, and access a wide collection of both print and digital books. It's a place where curiosity meets community, with several study rooms and staff who are experts on digital literacy, technology, AI, and more.
Our 14,000-square-foot Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) is where students strengthen language skills. Since 2010, the TLC has housed two departments in separate wings connected by a student center. Designed with sustainability in mind, it features a green roof and solar panels. Here, students learn to think mindfully and resourcefully, as they bring new ideas to life. Our redesigned Student Support Hub includes counselors and learning specialists who work with students one-on-one. It also has dedicated spaces for personalized learning support and programs tailored to each student's needs.
The William C. Armstrong Humanities Building is home to our English and History departments for grades 7–12. Finished in 2009 and named for Bill “Army” Armstrong—Overlake's longest-serving faculty member—this space features dedicated classrooms, a Humanities Conference Room, and an inspired design that fits right into our campus. It's where changemakers absorb literature, history, and cultural studies, building the critical thinking and communication skills that prepare them for college and life beyond.
The Campus Center is the heart and soul of student life at Overlake. It's where our Owls gather to eat, collaborate, and connect throughout the day. This center serves as our main dining hall and hosts everything from student art displays to special events and performances. Whether students are grabbing lunch, working on a project, or celebrating together, the Campus Center is where community is forged.
Creativity springs to life and impresses audiences in The Fulton Performing Arts Center. Grades 5-12 students have access to 16,000 square feet of dazzling theater, music, and visual arts. Amenities include a flexible Black Box theater for drama classes and experimental works, dedicated rooms for choral and instrumental music, and ensemble spaces for small group rehearsals. Designed to complement our signature campus, it's a place where students participate in productions, find their voices, work with peers, and bring heartfelt stories to the stage.
Overlake’s Art Barn is a repurposed barn-turned-creative vortex on our campus where students draw, paint, sculpt, and mix media. This barn also houses our Woodshop and three dedicated studios. Originally part of the farm that once occupied our land, this space honors Overlake's history while serving as a fertile hub for students to experiment, collaborate, and bring their artistic visions to life.
The Dean Palmer Field House is a dynamic indoor athletic facility right here at Overlake. Inside is our student-influenced GOLA room, two full-sized courts, a rocking climbing wall and more. Named after Dean Palmer, a former Head of School who championed well-rounded education, the Field House promotes physical education classes, team practices and competitions, and community events. Located near the Fifth & Sixth Grade Center and the Art Barn, it's an easily accessible space where students build skills, stay active, and come together.
Overlake students improve athletic skills, stay active, and compete in our Main Gym and join our athletics hall of fame. This customized mega-sized indoor facility hosts basketball, volleyball, and other court sports through PE classes, team practices, and games. With full-size courts, bleacher seating, a full weight room, and professional equipment, it's a space designed for structured athletics, and where students reinforce teamwork, fitness, and confidence.
