Where artistic expression and practical skills collide.

At Overlake, the Arts program is a vibrant linchpin of our educational experience. Our comprehensive curriculum spans drama, technical theater, vocal and instrumental music, visual arts, and digital media. Our young owls remain involved in and appreciate these disciplines post-graduation.

Students harness practical skills through classroom instruction and showcase their talents in performances both on campus and in regional workshops and festivals. Productions on our mainstage are available to students in grades 5-12, and include our popular all-school musical.

Aside from artistic technique, our program builds essential life skills in communication, creative problem-solving, leadership, collaboration, and self-expression that serve students well beyond their time at Overlake.

Arts

From your child’s first day at Overlake, they’ll hear the sound of music flowing through our hallways. Our 5th-12th grade program invites every student to find their voice—whether that's through choir, band, or orchestra. Imagine your young one performing at festivals both close to home and outside your area, sharing their passion with new audiences and bringing those experiences back to our nest.

Band, Choir & Orchestra Ensembles

Music is central to life at Overlake. Our Owls can join band, choir, or orchestra (strings) and grow as musicians throughout their time here. Whether picking up an instrument for the first time or testing out jazz improvisation and a cappella singing, students perform at concerts on campus and at festivals throughout the region. Along the way, they build musical skills and confidence that stay with them long after they graduate from Overlake.

Theater at Overlake is not an exercise in memorizing lines or simply painting a set piece; it's where students discover parts of themselves they never knew existed. Whether your child dreams of the spotlight or prefers the allure of behind-the-scenes work, they'll find their place in our theater family. From reimagining classics to creating bold new works, our young performers and designers learn to take creative risks in a space that encourages them to fly. Our Thespian troupe offers students the opportunity to connect with other theater students across the state, or even the country.

Art at Overlake goes beyond classroom walls. Young artists get their feet wet in everything from traditional studio techniques to digital photography, media production, sculpture, and experimental design. Picture your child's pride seeing their creativity displayed on the walls of our community spaces, brightening the Campus Center, or welcoming guests at the Fulton Performing Arts Center—visual proof of their creativity taking flight.

Facilities

Coming soon to a theater near you…

Nestled within our 75-acre campus, the Fulton Performance Arts Center is where live performances shine brightly. This 16,000-square-foot facility features a 350-seat theater for both spoken word and musical performances, a versatile black box theater that doubles as a drama classroom, and dedicated spaces for choral and instrumental music. With its white clapboard siding and gable roofs, the center complements our campus's farmstead aesthetic, providing students with professional-quality spaces to develop their artistic talents.

International Thespian Society

Theater is where young thespians take center stage.

At Overlake, our chapter of the International Thespian Society (ITS) connects students with a prestigious organization that honors achievement in theater arts. As members of this worldwide community spanning more than 4,900 schools, Overlake students join a tradition dating back to 1929 that recognizes excellence in performance and technical theater. High school students are inducted as Thespians and middle school students as Junior Thespians, creating a pathway for theater enthusiasts to develop their craft throughout their time at Overlake. As members of ITS, students have the opportunity to attend regional workshops, competitions, and events alongside others who share their passion for theater.
