Clubbing at Overlake

One of the more relaxed times of the school day is club time- when students have the opportunity to embark on an interest of theirs, whether it be social justice, science-related, school of rock or even study hall. At Overlake, club time is for both middle and upper school students, although the process to select clubs is a bit different for each.

Middle schoolers in grades 6 through 8 have already begun their clubs, meeting on B and F days. Click here for a photo slideshow. This year there were a couple of new offerings at the middle school level, including the School of Rock club with new teacher, Mr. Simonet and Dissection club with Ms. Pan. Middle school clubs are offered every quarter.

Fifth grade students have the opportunity to ease into the club atmosphere. For the first two quarters of the year, their club experience is teacher led in classrooms and gym. For the last quarter of the school year they assimilate into the rest of the MS club offerings.

For upper school students, clubs vary by semester and this year students signed up for their choices online. Something else new this year for upper school clubs is instead of faculty submitting club registration, it was students driving the process. This included training for student club leaders who will help manage the club process in the upper school.

US Club fair will be held Tuesday, Sept. 12th when upper school students will have the opportunity to hear during assembly a little bit from each club followed by an opportunity to learn more in the Campus Center during the fair. Students will have until the end of the day to register. Upper school clubs begin on Thursday, Sept. 14th (H Day)
