Lion King Information

Overlake default image

Every other year the 5th and 6th graders have the opportunity to be in a musical stage production at Overlake. This year’s 5th and 6th grade production is Disney’s “The Lion King - kids.”

The performances are at the end of the school year, on Friday, May 31 at 7:30pm and Saturday, June 1 at 2:30pm. If your student is interested in joining this production, please read the following information carefully.

During the next few weeks, we will take several opportunities to meet with all interested students, explain the expectations, and answer any questions they may have. This is a great opportunity for any student, regardless of previous experience. There is no audition required to be in the production, but there will be an audition process for students interested in larger roles. In our meetings, we will stress the importance of teamwork, a good attitude, focus, and the ability to encourage and support all members of our cast and crew. There is a place for everyone!

Time Commitment

We will be rehearsing The Lion King during the 3rd and 4th Quarter CLUB TIMES, running January – May. In addition, we have our after-school rehearsals planned for the following dates from 3:15pm – 4:45pm:

  • Wednesday and Thursday, May 15 and 16
  • Monday through Thursday, May 20 -23 and Tuesday through Thursday, May 28 - 30
  • Technical rehearsal on Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 5 PM for Actors (crew will start at 10 AM) – please note: this is Memorial Day weekend. This technical rehearsal is MANDATORY for all students in the cast and crew.
  •
  • Because we have so few scheduled, we need all cast members present for these, as we will be putting together all aspects of our production with our technical crew. These are very important dates for the full cast to be together, and we ask you to make note of these so that your student can be present. Please mark these dates on your family calendars, especially the technical rehearsal on Saturday, May 25!

School-related Conflicts

Intermediate Strings: We will work with Mr. Lotz so that any intermediate strings students can participate in the show. We will create a schedule so that string players in the production will still have ample rehearsal time with each group.

Athletics: We have worked with the athletics department to ensure students will be available on the above mandatory dates, so students who are playing Lacrosse, Ultimate, Golf, or Baseball can participate. Most seasons will have concluded by these dates.

Thank you so much. We hope your student can join us in this production experience!
