Cultural Exchange

Dates: Session A; July 8-19  Session B: July 22-Aug 2

Instructors: Limei Xu and Jennifer Pan

The Overlake Cultural Exchange Program helps international students to learn the intricacies of American culture. Students spend the morning (9-12) practicing vocabulary and carrying basic conversation in various settings of a typical day in the United States. The second half of the day (1-4) will be dedicated to integration and having students participate in afternoon camps with all the other students.

The English language learning curriculum is based on key national standards and will help students practice reading, writing, and speaking in English. Students will then be challenged to take what they’ve learned and implement the skills in the real world. They will be prepared to communicate and interview faculty and staff on campus, navigate markets and ask for help, read and follow recipes, use literary devices to write a poem, and many other hands-on activities.

Age: The Cultural Exchange is open to 11-15 year olds (students who will enter grades 6-10 in the 2019-20 school year).

Cost: The Cultural Exchange costs $1300 per student, which includes the price of the afternoon camps.
