Put on your green and gold, and join Owl fans as our Boys’ Soccer team continues its push through the state tournament!

Scott Lane’s team enters Saturday’s quarterfinals contest with lots of confidence after a 5-0 win over Columbia-White Salmon on Tuesday. After a tight first half and missed opportunites, Forward Esteban S. (’19) got the Owls on the board with a beautiful header seconds before halftime.

After the game, he was quick to credit his teammates. “Everybody on this team does their job and contributes,” says Esteban who controlled much of the offensive play. “Even the guys off the bench are making great plays, and it gets results.”

The Owls face league rival University Prep who got by Vashon Island 3-2. The last time the teams met two weeks ago, Overlake came out victorious by a 5-0 score.

Coach Lane is stressing to his players to not look past any opponent as boys’ soccer attempts to repeat last year’s state championship title. “We’ll be ready. For us, it’s one game at a time. Our seniors and guys like Este (Esteban) have incredible skills and when they stick to their game, that’s when it happens.”

While the Owls continue their quest to be the state’s top team, they are already champions. This week, the WIAA named them as the Academic State Champions for having the highest grade-point average of the 65-teams in the 1A classification.

Saturday’s State Quarterfinals on Saturday begin at 6pm in Shoreline Stadium (tickets $8 adults, $6 students).
