Aristocats Learn to Dance Like Cats

Aristocats

Dozens of Overlake Middle School students are in the middle of rehearsals for this spring’s musical The Aristocats.

Sarah Fitzpatrick is leading the club through lines and dance numbers. She invited Village Theatre’s Megan Adams to help with the show’s choreography. “Choreographers and Directors work hand in hand with Music Directors and without the three there can’t be a show,” Adams told students. “We’re going to stage these dances so you not only know the moves but know where on stage you’re going to be and who you’re going to be standing next to during it.”

Adams worked with students on their projection and stage confidence and with her close eye was able to pick out individuals who might need some work. She instilled the actor's concept of be wrong, but strong" to students who may have been looking down at the stage or missing their marks.

“We’re so lucky to have Megan here working with the kids. Her schedule is really busy, but the kids are going to learn so much not only for this show but for their future work on stage,” says Fitzpatrick.

With two weeks off for Project Week and spring break, the production will likely have some weekend rehearsals in April and May to make up for lost time. They’ll all be working hard when they get back as Aristocats opens on Friday, June 2.
