Annual Faculty/Staff Books I Have Loved List

Row of books

Reading is an act of civilization; it’s one of the greatest acts of civilization because it takes the free raw material of the mind and builds castles of possibilities.  —Ben Okri

The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story. —Ursula K. Le Guin

Which book this year (or any year) could build castles of possibilities for you? Which book could you bring to life in your mind? Which book could make you forget to check Canvas, forget to shower for a week, to eat all the chocolate in the house without noticing, or to not notice when your student goes out play in the pajamas she’s been wearing for a month straight? Which book could open your eyes and your mind in ways you never expected?

It's time once again for the annual Faculty/Staff Books I Have Loved list! Check out what your favorite teachers and staff have been reading, and find some great reads for yourself. (Note that most of these books are adult titles.)

Many thanks to Andrea McCandlish for doing much of the formatting this year!

Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.  —Anna Quindlen
