Middle School Bookfair

Students reading at bookfair

Thanks to a lot of help from a lot of people, the Middle School Bookfair was a great success! Books were supplied by Third Place Books, and students visited with their English classes, and were also free to drop by during lunch and breaks. Graphic novels were a huge hit this year, especially Guts by Raina Telgemeier, and Best Friends by Shannon Hale. In regular print, Rick Riordan's The Tyrant's Tomb (book four of the Trials of Apollo series) was one bestseller, and many, many people gushed over the illustrated Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Thanks to all the parents who volunteered before, during, and after the Bookfair--we could not do the fair without you! Thanks also to the English teachers who gave up some class time so their students could see new books. Final thanks to Overlake's new Head Librarian, Kelly Vikstrom-Hoyt, who set us up to scan IDs and book barcodes instead of writing everything in longhand. I appreciate being brought into the 21st century!

All of Overlake's profits from the Bookfair go to our school in Cambodia. Thanks to everyone who bought a book and supported our Cambodian school!
