This will be a introduction to the joys of backcountry skiing at Stevens or Snoqualmie Pass (not in the ski area). Participants will need backcountry skis (rent from Pro Ski) and climbing skins. If you are already an alpine skier renting alpine touring gear may be your best bet. (You can release the heel while touring and lock down the heel while making turns.) Otherwise renting telemark gear will give you the best of both worlds. Snowboards/Splitboards ok.  You should be comfortable skiing blue/black runs in a ski area.  Shovels avalanche transceivers and probes will be provided by Overlake.

Students will learn what it takes to ski the mountains outside of the ski area, including learning about the gear, snow travel, route selection, transceiver use, snow pack assessment, and risk management skills while skiing with a group in the mountains.

Destination: Stevens Pass area (exact location to be determined later, weather and snow conditions will dictate)

Everyone will need to print out, sign, and bring the Permission Form the first day
