Athletics

When it’s time for Overlake students to work, they work hard, but when it’s time to play, they play even harder. At Overlake, over 75% of students in grades 6 through 12 participate in sports. While students learn the value of competition and life-long physical health, they also learn about good sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership, lessons they can take beyond the playing field. Every student who wants to play has the opportunity, at the varsity, junior varsity, or Middle School level.

  • Interscholastic athletics begin in 6th grade with boys and girls soccer, basketball and lacrosse.
  • Middle School athletics emphasize skill development and inclusion. Every student is encouraged to get involved.
  • Upper School athletics include boys and girls soccer, cross-country, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, baseball, golf and girls volleyball.
  • Upper School students compete either at the junior varsity level where attention is paid to building skills or at the more competitive varsity level.
  • Overlake is part of the Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association's Emerald City 1A League.
  • A new 20,000 square foot gym and a state-of-the-art year-round athletic field were opened in 2004.
