The Math Department seeks to provide every student with a thorough foundation of math skills. The vigorous, traditional mathematics curriculum develops students’ analytical, problem solving skills and logical, reasoning skills in relation to real world problems.
The Math curriculum at Overlake is offered in a traditional sequence rather than the integrated program that is typical of many of the local public schools. Students complete full year courses in Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre Calculus, Calculus, or AP Calculus and choose from electives such as Computer Science, Statistics and Advanced Math Topics. Many courses incorporate technology within the curriculum in order to enhance learning and to give students exposure to real world scenarios.
The Math department faculty members are committed to providing a challenging and supportive environment that meets the needs of student’s varying interests and abilities. In addition to preparing students for college math, the faculty seeks to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of math and its applications. Their philosophy is to promote confidence and inspire the students’ best effort.
