The Arts Department at Overlake seeks to provide students with an understanding of and an appreciation for a variety of art forms, both in the visual and performing arts. The goal is to provide students with opportunities to develop their abilities in perception, comprehension, creativity, and aesthetic values. Students develop creative problem solving skills as they become competent at communicating in multiple modes and media formats. They also become skilled in collaboration while gaining confidence in their own expression. The department is committed to developing lively, tactile-based activities where students discover their own creativity whether it be in music, drama, fine or industrial arts. Meanwhile, the faculty aims to nurture each student’s unique talent and cultivate an understanding of the process of creating and living creatively.

The Arts program at Overlake is a hands-on, experiential program where students have the opportunity to explore personal expression and creative contribution in a safe and supportive environment. All activities take place in state of the art facilities. The Fulton Performing Arts Center boasts a 350-seat full-stage theater, a fully rigged black box theater, a costume storage and work area, dressing room, a projection, sound and lighting booth, two large and two small acoustically isolated music rooms, an art gallery, and faculty offices and storage. The Art Barn includes two painting and drawing studios, a ceramics studio, a woodshop, darkroom, and faculty offices and storage space. Both buildings were completed in 2000.
